Top-seeded Italian player Jannik Sinner kicked off his US Open 2025 journey with an impressive victory, defeating Czech newcomer Vit Kopriva with a score of 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 in just 98 minutes. The 24-year-old athlete displayed no lingering effects from the illness that led to his withdrawal during the Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz the previous week, which had raised questions about his fitness ahead of this tournament.
As the current World No. 1, Sinner exhibited sharp skills on the court, breaking Kopriva's serve seven times and maintaining control throughout the match.
Following his win, Sinner highlighted the importance of prioritizing health and ensuring adequate rest.
Reflecting on his training regimen, Sinner stated, “In the past, I would practice for two hours on my days off. Now, I realize that feeling the ball is crucial, and it's better to rest to conserve energy for the next match rather than feeling exhausted.”
He added, “Managing time effectively, whether it’s with a physiotherapist or deciding how long to stay on-site, is something I’m learning. I’m not perfect, but I’m making progress.”
Next, Sinner is set to compete against Alexei Popyrin in the second round, aiming to become the first man since Roger Federer to successfully defend the US Open title.
